“An attacker advances against you, Nineveh. Guard the fortress, watch the road, brace yourselves,
marshal all your strength!”
Nahum 2:1 (NIV)
This passage of Scripture is a perfect
example of how to prepare for a spiritual attack.

Step 1
– First, realize that the enemy is approaching.
Acknowledge the enemy. Learn about the enemy. Realize the enemy is out
to conquer and destroy.

Step 2
– Guard the fortress. Guard our minds and our hearts from evil thoughts and
attacks. Think of things that are pure, holy, just, and right. “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble,
whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard
from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with
you” Philippians 4:8-9 (NIV). “Above all
else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of
life” Proverbs 4:23 (NIV).

Step
3 – Watch the road. Watch the path we are on. Are we on the right path or
the wrong path? Are we on the right path and Satan is trying to buffet us? Are
we on the wrong path because we made poor decisions and now have found
ourselves in the enemy’s camp? “Listen, my son, and be wise,
and keep your heart on the right path” Proverbs 23:19 (NIV).

Step
4 – Brace yourself. We can do this
by putting on the full armor of God and making sure that our feet is firmly
planted in the Word of God. “Finally, be strong in the Lord
and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God
so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” Ephesians 6:10-11
(NIV).

Step 5 -
Marshall all of our strength. We must realize where our strength and help comes
from. Our help comes from the Lord. “I lift up my eyes to the
hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord , the Maker of heaven and earth” Psalms 121: 1-2 (NIV). Our
strength and power comes through the Holy Spirit. We cannot do anything apart
from the Holy Spirit and His help. “I am the vine; you are the
branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart
from me you can do nothing” John 15:5 (NIV). We should pray for strength and power to
overcome the battle before which is before us.
When we follow these steps, we will be more likely to be
victorious over the devil and his schemes. We need to be ever so watchful and
diligent in our walk with the Lord so that we may fight the good fight and
overcome evil.
